Normally when we think about optimizing a Mobile Application (App Store Optimization), the first thing that comes to mind is to improve visual assets such as the icon or screenshots or to focus on the search and optimization of new keywords. But we often overlook the impact that user ratings and reviews have on our Mobile App downloads.
Next, we will show you how you can improve the quality and quantity of these reviews to increase the downloads of your App.
How user reviews affect the ASO
User reviews are considered by the algorithms that rank apps, so the more positive reviews an App has, the higher it will appear in search results. In addition to this, users can also be influenced by high download rates and positive comments when choosing between an App or a similar one.
Convert a 1-star rating to 5 stars
Rarely does an app debut get 5 stars? Errors may arise at first, performance issues on different devices, or simply users would like your application to do something else. This can lead to very low ratings and negative comments at first. But do not be discouraged, these criticisms can be very constructive and will provide you with key information on how to update and improve your App.
So far on iOS, it is not allowed to reply to user comments, but you can do it on Google Play. Always reply politely, even if they are negative comments, and welcome feedback. Only in this way will you achieve a change of opinion.
You must know how to choose the right time to request an assessment. It would not make sense to ask users to rate App the first time they open it since they will not know how to use it or know all its functionalities. Wait for the user to become familiar with the App, at least after the third or fifth session.
Get honest reviews upfront
The quality of the first evaluations and comments may vary, but it is very important that you get verified and honest opinions from the beginning. Instead of waiting for an unknown user to write the first review of your App, you may ask your trusted network for opinions.
If you have had an app tester in the initial phase of your project, ask them if they would be willing to write a review. Your experience will be more credible than that of a new user. Another good way is to ask colleagues if they would be willing to test and rate your App, nobody better than them will know how to detect problems and praise a good job.
Improve the quality of reviews
Turning negative reviews and reviews into positive comments will take time and require constant work.
As we have commented previously, it is key to know how and when to ask for ratings and comments. You can carry out a survey within your App in the tenth session, if the comment is positive you can encourage it to publish it directly in the App Store, and if it is negative you can include an email to send you feedback.
